The Bone Warden is a Tier 4 Peak monster in Crawl.

Despite what appearances may suggest, the Bone Warden is closer to a direct upgrade of the Dark Executioner than the Doom Bringer is. When idling, the bone warden will hold up its shield, blocking most incoming attacks and staggering the Hero if it blocks a melee attack. Keep in mind, however, this will not protect it from from some attacks such as Sun Beam or Bloodstrike. Oddly, bots will sometimes remain stationary and rely on the shield even if the Hero has access to such attacks, allowing them to be dispatched easily.
